Athlete health is crucial.

Healthy athletes stay in the sport and health is the foundation from which to build any performance. But more fundamentally than that it’s the basis for living your best life.

Yet somehow, with many different influences it’s all too easy to lose yourself. Next thing you notice somehow you are down a path that’s not right and your health is suffering.

Recently released is a super insightful survey report into just how extensive some of the challenges are for female athletes.

This backs up some of the earlier work from the Olympic committees work and its consensus statement.

Project RED-S is one of the best resources out there. It is literally packed with information in lots of formats, from medical information, explanations and some really powerful personal stories from every level in sport.

The survey above is based on female experiences. RED-S can impact everyone, there can be various common challenges within communities and demographics but equally everyone’s experience can be very personally specific.

British Triathlon also has some basic guidance on nutrition hub information that may be of help. I’m happy to reference other reputable sources as well if useful.

As a coach I’m always here to support those in my personal coaching group directly and I hope the above is a useful set of information for those reading this post.

2 very powerful personal stories are found on the athlete resources video section of Project RED-S with Mary Cain and Freddie Flintoff.
